Albatera, located in the region of the Vega Baja del Segura, close to the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante. It sits on the banks of the Segura river, surrounded by the Sierra de Crevillent and wetlands. A complex network of irrigation canals, some of which date back to Roman times, is a testament to the town's rich history.

Dotted with palm trees and whitewashed terraced houses, today Albatera is home to young families, retirees and expatriates. Nearby towns include Crevillente, Orihuela, San Isidro, Catral and Cox.

ALBATERA BEACHES AND PROMENADE

Albatera is 30 minutes from the beaches of La Marina and Guardamar. These are blue flag beaches with modern amenities and numerous seafront restaurants, cafes and bars. There is a marina in Guardamar with 494 moorings and a navigable course for small boats.

ALBATERA LIFESTYLE

The town square has notable attractions, cafes and ice cream parlours. The centre of the square has the most important monument, the 18th century Catholic church of Santiago Apostus which is resplendent with its intricately carved baroque stone entrance. The old casino and the town hall, which houses the 16th century Renaissance portico of the former palatial residence of the noble Rocafull family, are the other highlights of the square.

Albatera celebrates two fiestas in July, one in honour of the Apostle St. James and the other in honour of the Moors and Christians.

The municipal park Parque de la Huerta, consisting of 30,000m2 of gardens, with a lake, fountain, lawns, waterfalls, ponds, children's playground, open-air auditorium and several walking trails, is a popular meeting place for hikers and outdoor and nature enthusiasts.

During the warmer months, the dry river bed and salt water deposits of the Rambla Salada de Albaterra, which runs through the mountain, make it a great attraction.

On Thursdays a weekly market is held in the Calle Mayor, where various stalls and kiosks sell food and drink, including locally produced vegetables and fruit such as pomegranates, lemons, oranges, figs and artichokes. Albatera also has several supermarkets, grocery shops and other shops.

GOLF

Two of Alicante's best golf resorts, La Finca and La Marquesa, and the Alenda golf club are only 25 minutes drive away, while Font de Llop and Vistabella are 30 minutes drive away.
