BENIJOFAR

BENIJOFAR BEACHES AND PROMENADE

The town is just a 12-minute drive from the Blue Flag beaches of Guardamar, located side by side on a 12-kilometre-long white sandy coastline. They offer water sports activities such as canoeing, jet skiing, water skiing, sailing, windsurfing and diving. Guardamar also has a marina with 498 moorings at the mouth of the river.

BENIJOFAR LIFESTYLE

The Church of Santiago Apostle (St. James) is one of the most notable buildings in the town. Its interiors contain elements of the Baroque period. The villagers celebrate various festivals during Easter and Christmas with numerous processions. The feast day of Benijófar's patron saint, San Jaime, is on July 25th.

Many of the festivities take place in the central square of the town called Plaza de la Constitución. The Plaza de la Celebración is next to the Casa de la Cultura which hosts the annual Patata event, where residents and visitors gather to dine on roast potatoes, during the San Jaime celebrations in July.

Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike will adore the walking route which stretches from the Camino de Rafaels, along the banks of the Segura river, through the recreational area of El Secano and ending in the central village square. The route passes through traditional orchards, a historic 17th century water wheel and fields. El Secano has a picnic area with barbecue facilities, benches and tables, making it a good place to rest halfway along the route or simply to enjoy a picnic.

The Cañada Marsá is a green expanse that runs along the stretch that separates Benijófar from Ciudad Quesada, Rojales and Benimar. It has a large artificial lake with geese and ducks, recreational areas for sports and walking trails. Park el 3 de abril attracts fitness enthusiasts as it has exercise equipment installed in its grounds.

The town offers a variety of facilities for daily life such as medical clinics, doctors, dentists, physiotherapy clinics, pharmacies, beauty therapists, beauty salons and pool shops. Benijófar has private gyms and a large public sports centre with a full size football pitch, indoor multi-sports courts for tennis, handball, basketball and a swimming pool. Children attend the schools Escuela de Educación Infantil Municipal las Cinco Cuevas and CEIP San Jaime.

There is a supermarket (Mercadona) and independent shops such as hardware and furniture stores, kitchen suppliers, gift shops, grocers, butchers and bakers. A weekly market takes place on Tuesday mornings where stalls sell fresh fruit and vegetables.

Benijófar lies directly between La Finca Golf & Country Club in Algorfa and Las Marquesas in Quesada. Both are less than 10 minutes drive away.
