Crevillente is a town in the Baix Vinalopó region of the province of Alicante. It is located in the foothills of the Sierra de Crevillent. The town is close to Elche, Alicante and Santa Pola and is well known for the production of esparto rugs and carpets, the latter earning Crevillente the name of Ciudad de las Alfombras (City of Carpets).

The layout of Crevillente includes an old Moorish quarter, typical Spanish cave-houses and a modern area which is home to a large expatriate population.

CREVILLENTE BEACHES AND PROMENADE

Playa del Pinet in Santa Pola is about 19 kilometres away, making it the closest beach to Crevillente. Golden sands backed by woods and shallow waters that are easy to wade in make this beach picturesque. There are a couple of restaurants and ice cream kiosks. The start of the boardwalk also has foot showers.

Crevillente's beautiful parks and gardens, such as Parque Nuevo, and tree-lined avenues are ideal for relaxing strolls. The Casa del Parque houses the neoclassical building of the archaeological museum and the municipal art collection.

The town also has a museum exhibiting the works of the Valencian sculptor Mariano Benlliure. Our Lady of Bethlehem is the oldest church here. Crevillente celebrates the annual Moors and Christians festivities.

Many of the agricultural areas in and around, especially El Realengo, contain ruins of houses and prisons that were used during the Spanish Civil War.

The wetland area of the El Hondo nature reserve is only 12 minutes drive away. Home to a variety of migratory birds, it attracts hikers, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts in equal measure.
