Formentera del Segura, a little village on the left bank of the River Segura in the Alicante province, is located just a short drive away from the popular seaside resorts of Torrevieja, La Marina, and Santa Pola on Costa Blanca. It is near Benijofar, Rojales, Daya Vieja, Daya Nueva, and Almoradi.

FORMENTERA DEL SEGURA BEACHES AND PROMENADE

The Blue Flag beaches on the 11 kilometres long coastline of Guardamar, comprising Playa Centro, Playa Moncayo, Playa del Campomar, Playa Babilonia, and Playa de las Dunas, among others, are a 20-minute drive away. There are a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars, while other beaches offer a more tranquil ambience.

FORMENTERA DEL SEGURA LIFESTYLE

The village square is home to the 19th century Parish Church of Purisima. Other monuments include the shrine of Ermita de San Roque built in honour of its eponymous patron saint.

During August, Formentera del Segura celebrates its fiesta month in honour of San Roque and San Miguel with open-air concerts, fireworks, paella-making competitions, song and fancy dress contests, parties, parades, a motorbike exhibition, and a horse show that exhibits Spain’s Appaloosa horses. At the Parque El Molino, there is a free traditional lunch of bread, sardines, wine, and beer.

There are lots of lovely walks from Formentera along the river Segura. The Reina Sofia Park is just 10 kilometres away. The pine trees, pretty lakes that are home to peacocks, geese, ducks, and local, and migrating birds, and the children’s play area make it a popular place to relax.

The village is divided into three urban centres, the core between Rojales and Almoradi, the Los Palacios neighbourhood located 1.5 kilometres from the main population centre that borders Rojales, and the Private Farms de la Vega. CEIP Juan Carlos I, Escuela Infantil De Primer Ciclo Municipal Los Duendes, and Preparador are the public schools here. There is one pharmacy, one medical centre called the Consultorio Local, and a bank/cashpoint. A four-minute drive out of the village gives you access to a horse riding area La Palmera, public swimming pool Piscina Municipal, and the Aqua Park Ciudad Quesada water park.

SHOPPING CENTRES AND MARKETS

There is a supermarket Supermercado Dialprix, numerous shops, and grocery stores. On Monday mornings there is a small market selling household items, clothes, shoes, and fresh fruit and vegetables.

The historic La Marquesa golf course is just over 4 kilometres away, and the world-famous La Finca takes 20 minutes by car.
