Hurchillo is a hamlet in the foothills of the Sierra de Hurchillo in the municipality of Orihuela in the province of Alicante. Arneva, Bigastro and Molins are the nearest towns and the city of Orihuela is only a 10 minute drive away.

BEACHES AND PROMENADE OF HURCHILLO

Hurchillo is a 15-20 minute drive from the most popular beaches of Orihuela Costa, as well as Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja. All of these municipalities have blue flag beaches with restaurants, cafes and bars facing the sea. Some of the famous beaches are Playa Flamenca, Playa Centro and Playa del Acequión.

Orihuela Costa has two marinas, Cabo Roig and Dehesa de Campoamor. Guardamar has a marina at the mouth of the Segura River with 494 moorings. Torrevieja has three marinas, namely Marina Salinas, Real Club Náutico and Marina Internacional.

LIFESTYLE OF HURCHILLO

Most activities and fiestas take place near the town square and the Church of Nuestra Señora de Monserrate. The patron saint fiestas are held in honour of the Virgen de Monserrate during the first fortnight of September. The Hermandad del Santísimo Sacramento de Hurchillo organises the Fiestas del Señor (Corpus Christi) in June. An interesting tradition followed by the locals is that the bride and groom on their wedding day must take a walk around the village and be followed by the guests until the wedding day. 

The village is close to the park and recreational area of La Pedrera, which borders the La Pedrera reservoir and offers views of the Orihuela mountains. The area offers camping and barbecue facilities and there are also mountain bike tracks.

FACILITIES

The Hurchillo Public School "Manuel Riquelme" is the only school in Hurchillo. Hurchillo also has a physiotherapy centre, however, there are more facilities in nearby Bigastro, which is 2.5 kilometres away. It also has many banks, ATMs, pharmacies, medical centres, dental clinics and more options for schools. There is an indoor heated swimming pool in Bigastro town centre.

SHOPPING CENTRES AND MARKETS

The town has a supermarket called Cecosa Hipermercados. The nearby town of Bigastro has a variety of supermarkets, grocery shops and shops. It also hosts a weekly market every Thursday in Purisima Street.

GOLF

Hurchillo is close to many top golf resorts in Alicante, including Vistabella, La Finca, La Marquesa, Campoamor and Villamartin, all of which can be reached within a 30 minute drive.
