SAN MIGUEL DE SALINAS

San Miguel de Salinas is the highest town in the Comarca of Vega Baja del Segura in the south of the province of Alicante. Its hillside location means that there are many places in and around the area that offer panoramic views of the salt lakes of Torrevieja and La Mata, as well as the surrounding orange and lemon groves.

BEACHES AND SURROUNDINGS OF SAN MIGUEL DE SALINAS

The town is a 17 minute drive from Orihuela Costa's blue flag beaches such as Playa Flamenca, Punta Prima, Mil Palmeras, Cabo Roig, Campoamor and La Zenia. As well as sunbathing, swimming and enjoying the various water sports, there are also facilities for tennis and horse riding. Orihuela Costa also has two marinas, Dehesa de Campoamor and Cabo Roig.

Among the most notable buildings is the local church, which dates back to the early 19th century. It has an irregularly shaped denouncing tower which offers a fantastic view of the whole region. 

The town celebrates its share of fiestas and festivals, including the Feria week in August and the Fiesta de San Miguel in September. San Miguel de Salinas also hosts a music festival, Fiesta de Santa Cecilia, in November.

There are many areas of natural beauty within easy driving distance which also have hiking, bird watching and picnic options, such as Laguna Salada Torrevieja and Embalse de La Pedrera.

There are two schools, the private El Limonar and the Phoenix International School which follows the British National Curriculum. The town also has a small private institution, the O'Brien Language and Examination Centre.

The town centre has a number of shops and supermarkets. There are also a couple of supermarkets such as Masymas and Spar Express. The weekly market takes place every Wednesday with over 165 stalls. Shop for fresh fruit, vegetables, local produce, household goods and other decorative items here.

San Miguel de Salinas is very close to some of the most popular 18 hole golf resorts on the Costa Blanca such as Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas. All of these are within a 15 minute drive.
